an unbeliever

hat: qualtrics, scarf: disneyland!!!, shirt: f21, pants: kohls, belt: f21, shoes: thrifted keds

Things I don't believe are real:

1. Mincemeat pie. Has anybody actually ever eaten this before? It sounds so weird.

2. Baby yoga. I taught babies how to "swim" and even that was a little far-reaching for me despite the whole babies-are-natural-swimmers-since-they-swam-in-the-womb-thing.

3. BYU is rated #3 on ESPN Men's Basketball. This is incredible.

4. The awesome long-lasting nature of this nail polish that I bought for 97 cents at Walmart. I even cleaned our bathroom and I only have three tiny chips even though I painted them like four days ago.

5. Global warming.

Just kidding.

I'm only trying to be controversial.

6. The fact that I won $25 to Smashion.com from Clothed Much. Thanks Elaine! You rock! And your outfits are pretty awesome too.

I also can't believe that this 30 for 30 is almost over! Only two more days, only two more outfits. I think I have forgotten how to blog about anything besides what I am wearing. I better start doing some interesting things with my life so I can blog about it. Any ideas of what to do here in boring ol' Provo when the weather refuses to reach 50 degrees. And no, skiing is not an option due to my lack of money and lack of foot-eye coordination (that sounds so much better with hand-eye coordination, but how else are you supposed to describe it?)

it's bun-derful

sunglasses: f21, shirt: jcpenneys, scarf: kohls (it was $2--awesome!), skirt: target or wal-mart or something, belt: f21, tights: f21 & target, shoes: charlotte russe, bag: mulberry for target

Husband spent a good part of the day trying to compliment my hair in a unique and funny way, and "It's bun-derful" was the one he came up with five minutes ago.

I'm like so proud of myself for being so smart today. {Husband edit: I promise she's not really this cocky at home--maybe it's that bun or something} I wanted to wear my red tights because I think they are fun and there is a little bit of red in this scarf, but I didn't want them to be too bright, plus they are annoying because they are thigh-highs and they fall down all the time. SOOO I put a pair of sheer black tights over them. All problems solved! Maybe I am getting smarter at college after all.

luckless in provo

umbrella: totes, jacket: dear by amanda bynes, shirt: kohls?, dress: kohls, necklace: no clue, boots: steve madden

I kept putting off taking pictures today, hoping that the snow would stop and all melt magically. No luck.

Just like the no luck I had with studying histology. Could there be a more boring topic?!

Also like the no luck we had with avoiding awkwardness with neighbors. I knew our neighbors were getting ready to leave the house, so we decided to walk down the street a little bit to shoot. They drove by where we were taking pictures FOUR TIMES--I guess they drive separate cars, and the girl must have forgotten something so she turned around. Our neighbors probably think I am so into myself. Which I'm not. Obviously.

But not all is so bad. We went to Tucanos for lunch (thank you birthday club!), and now I think I will never have to eat meat again, so that makes dinner easy. Aka no dinner because I am not going to be able to force a piece of food in my mouth for a while. (Also, I apologize if there are still remnants of a food baby....I tried to hide it...)

I've spent a good part of today sitting in front of our heater, pretending that the heat is actually sun rays on the beaches of Maui or something. Well, at least we have a heater.

And tonight we have big plans to watch Bride & Prejudice, which is about the most hilarious movie on the face of the planet. I can't believe I've actually convinced husband to watch it with me. This is going to be a night to remember.

spots & snow

shirt: target, earrings: kohls, necklace: f21, sweater: thrifted, jeggings: jcpenneys, boots: target, umbrella: totes
Sooo....so much for spring time. This was the lovely surprise we woke up to this morning. Winter wonderland, oh yipee. The only awesome part was that I got to use my umbrella, and well, I'm pretty sure it's clear how I feel about that.

Not that I really know much about it or spent much time on the Internet, but one thing that I did notice and love this year was the fun and bold braids that were popping up everywhere. I'm not a pro at braiding or anything (as my sister Lyvia would attest), but I saw this post and couldn't help giving it a try. Also, I apologize for the snow everywhere--it was seriously crazy this morning!

Time for Some A&A

That's right, it's Thursday, and I'm feeling like life lately has been both a little awkward and (a lot) awesome.

Awkward:

  • Talking with the girl sitting next to me in class as we were leaving and then realizing she is on her cell phone. Weird how the conversation still flowed so well.
  • Giving my microbiology students an online quiz and then realizing that I have absolutely zero clue how to view their tests and grade them...
  • Taking yesterday's pictures on our neighbor's front porch and praying the whole time that they don't come home. Hey! It was the only place where we wouldn't have to use flash!
  • Thinking I was pretty good friends with someone, and then finding out that they are engaged via a Facebook invite. Okay maybe this is a pity post, but even a little text would have been nice?
  • The smell of my lab mate's shrimp Top Ramen noodles. Blecchh. Smells extra awful when combined with weird organic chemical odors.
  • This video from the birthday dinner last night:

Awesome
  • Wasting time and going back in the Google archives to read some of mine and Owen's first gmail chats. They probably should go back under the awkward category, but they are really quite hilarious. Good thing we got better at flirting with each other.
  • Finally figuring out to grade said quizzes. Take that, Blackboard!
  • My (sort of) cousin (okay he is Owen's cousin, but practically mine) is running for BYUSA president-- Vote Greenburg & Steele
  • Good right-out-of-bed hair today. Thank goodness, because heaven knows 6:15 is wayyy too early for this girl.
  • Owen's AWESOME birthday yesterday! We actually got to see each other during the day, which was a miracle right there. And he loved my gifts, which included a manly manly power drill and speakers with a sub-woofer thingy (I really do not like that word for some reason but he likes the speakers so it's okay!)
  • Mixing black & brown today. Deal with it.
  • Planning for summer. YAY! Almost there (sorta)...but I seriously cannot wait to get a break from this snow cage.
  • The number of different outfit shots we have been able to score in our backyard. Who knew that tiny piece of grass could be so versatile?
  • That video from Owen's birthday dinner last night.
  • My "spring decorations" which consist of a few fake brightly colored dahlias in Jones Soda bottles on the window sill. But I love them and they make me smile, and that's the important part.
  • Husband doing the dishes RIGHT NOW. Love it. And having leftovers so I didn't even really have to cook. Double love it.
  • Tomorrow is Friday! Ohhh yeah.

birthdayz

necklace: old navy, sweater: target, dress thing: kohls, jeggings: jcpenneys, boots: steve madden, belt: f21
This was the 30 for 30 outfit that Owen picked out today :) What a nice birthday boy, picking out a 30 for 30 outfit for me when he knows my brain has run out of ideas!

And here are a few snapshots from the birthday! Owen loooooves the Rice Krispies from the Creamery, so I got him one instead of a cake. Then since my lab was cancelled this week, we got to enjoy lunch together (which literally never happens) and it was super awesome!

We went to dinner at Texas Roadhouse because it's always too busy on weekends for us to bother waiting. We of course ordered hot wings, which sadly had nothing on these bad boys. I guess that in Utah people don't really know how to order a steak because they totally overcooked Owen's steak when he asked for it medium rare (they must not have believed him). But Owen has truly become a member of my family and mentioned the problem to our server, so he got a new steak and then they also paid for it! So, overall Texas Roadhouse = not that fabulous of food, but definitely good service.

And now we are watching I.Robot because Owen has asked me if we could watch it like every weekend and since it's his birthday, I guess I finally can give in :)

the BIG 24

Happy birthday to the coolest guy on the entire planet!!!

man, isn't he good looking??

I'm so excited that today is your birthday, partially because for the past six months, you keep telling everyone that you were 24 already. Well, now you finally are! Except you probably will think you're 25 now. Oh well. I still love you lots and lots anyway!

And to celebrate and be super mushy because I almost never am (hehe), here are 24 reasons why I am celebrating you being in my life!

1. You smell really good! 2. Few people look as awesome in skinny jeans as you do 3. You are going to make an awesome dad and are so fun with kids (thought I think my Spanish voice for storytelling is better than yours) 4. You read and laugh at all of my blog posts, even if some of them are lame 5. You try to pronounce my physiology terms and are so hilariously off but don't care 6. You come and surprise me at work with visits 7. You love computers so much, it's actually pretty funny 8. You are the best snuggler of all time 9. You make super good pancakes 10. You like to keep a clean house too 11. But you also hate laundry as much as I do 12. You are (almost) as obsessed with Disneyland as I am, and don't mind if half of our vacations are there 13. You listen to all of my dumb stories 14. You have such a cute bum 15. You don't think that it is lame to watch Beauty & the Beast 16. You say that my cooking is actually pretty good. 17. You always compliment my nail polish and say how cute it is, even if it chips the next day 18. You are a good foomasseur (yeah, learned that word today) 19. You drive me to school at 7 am to go play weird Balinese instruments 20. You think that it's awesome that I want to be a pharmacist 21. You love your family a lot and my family a lot too 22. You figure things out on your own and are good at coming up with solutions. 23. You don't think that I am half as ridiculous as I really am (or at least you pretend to ignore it...) 24. You are the best husband of all time!!!

Also, he is awesome because he picked out my 30 for 30 outfit today--something to look forward to!

things to not do while wearing heels

top: kohls, blazer: thrifted, jeans: kohls, heels: charlotte russe
Reasons why this outfit was completely inappropriate for today:

1. Owen and I baby-sat a 2-year-old and infant today for a couple of hours.

2. I then went to the hospital where I really want to get a shadowing position, and hopefully they didn't think I was crazy.

3. I also had research today in an organic chemistry lab.

4. Which was all the way across campus from where I work and I had to walk there quickly. And then turned right back around because the chemicals I needed haven't arrived yet :(

Ohhhh the things we do for "fashion," right?

Remind me if I ever do this 30 for 30 thing again to put in MORE PRACTICAL black heels. Oh well. Only 8 more outfits left! I cannot believe the end is so near!

For free, too. Not that I am jealous or anything (especially since I don't even know how to ski or snowboard). Guess we all know which of us has the coolest job. But I guess I will let Qualtrics pay for Owen to skip school and go snowboarding instead because tomorrow is his birthday.

our last winter hurrah

(i wish)

So, like, here's what I wore today blah blah blah

I apologize for the lack of enthusiasm, but my outfit was mildly boring, plus where we went to take pictures was SO MUCH COOLER than any ol' outfit post!

hat: homemade, scarf: f21, shirt: target, coat: ???, jeans: jcpenney's, boots: steve madden
As I was blogstalking today like any normal person does on their day off of school and work, I came across this post (yes she has a better camera than us). I turned to Owen who was sitting next to me in our bed doing homework (don't all normal people do homework in bed? I love our bed so so so much, it is the most comfortable place in the whole wide world. anyways...back on subject) and told him how I totally wanted to go there. He thought that Midway was up past Salt Lake, but then when I consulted Google Maps, I found that Midway was only 40 minutes away! We decided to go.

I don't know what it is, but something about Presidents Day always inspires random trips for us. Last year it was Moab, and this year, the ice castles in Midway. I don't know, but I love it!

Anyway, going here was seriously like stepping into another world. And it's crazy because this little "icy oasis" as I called it (Owen reminded me that an oasis is usually a warm island, but oh well) is right in the middle of downtown Midway (which isn't really all that much of a downtown). We went right before the sun set, but then fifteen minutes before the sun was about to set, our camera died. Dummy dummy me! We took some pictures on Owen's phone but it's going to take me forever to figure out how to get all of them on my computer, so for now, you can just enjoy the daytime view :)

My only regret is that we didn't bring a little extra cash to buy some hot chocolate. Who would have thought that gigantic free-standing icicle sculptures would be so cold?

Husband is such a good poser :)

hoodie: target, hat: qualtrics, coat: f21, jeans: vans (hehehe)

Hope your President's Day was just as adventurous, and hopefully a little warmer! :)

3 blocks from the mall, we find a surprise

umbrella: isotoner, shirt: f21, skirt: american eagle, coat: f21, tights: target, boots: target

Today's photo shoot was so fun! After church, I just told Owen that we should stop "somewhere between here and picking up Devynne." He turned down this little road because he thought it led somewhere, but we got to this dead end and there was a little horse pasture there! It was awesome! Also it was snowing, so I totally decided that I could use my fabulous and awesome umbrella during the photo session! Owen thought I was being ridiculous, but no one was there except our mister horse friend :)

Oh my gosh Owen! He's coming close to me! (the horse liked me better than owen! shh!)
I admit, that in the past, I have been kind of a scaredy-pants when it comes to horses. I rode one when I was like twelve at a church activity, and I was scared out of my mind! My horse was a little rambunctious, and I definitely did not like feeling like I didn't have any control. But then today at the pasture, I realized that horses were a lot bigger to me when I was twelve, and maybe I should give them another chance...After all, in our dream backyard sketch, Owen did draw a horse stable next to my tennis courts.

Today I am grateful for a sister who hung out with me all day yesterday while Owen was programming away, especially since she let me do her nails. We did this awesome tutorial, and I think they turned out pretty cute :)

sorry, i have weird hands...notice the papercut on my thumb. i have a problem.

heartbreakers, lawbreakers

shirt: target, sweater: thrifted, scarf: came as a belt with a pair of pants from kohls, belt: f21, bracelet: target, pants: jcpenneys, boots: steve madden
Yay! Saturday! AAAaaaaaaannndddd it rained today! Woohoo! I love the rain! I even got to use my umbrella for a little bit which was Awesome! Owen is in CSM right now and is holed up on campus, so my lovely sister was forced into photographing me. Thanks D!

Shhhh don't tell anyone--we took these pictures in my neighbors backyard! I hope that's not like against the law or something...

I would write more, but I got to get back to watching A Very Potter Musical on YouTube. Maybe there is something to be said for these YouTube videos after all....Hope you are all having a lovely three-day weekend and wasting time like should always been done on these sorts of weekends!

date night-xtreme version + PP

So for date night last (thanks to CityDeal.com giving us a rockin' deal!) we decided to push our EXTREME skills to the next level and try indoor rock climbing!

Rock climbing >> paintballing

It was not that easy and I admit that I totally felt like an amateur, but it was pretty fun! The hardest climb I ever did was only a 5.7, but even though it was super hard and my arms were shaking like crazy, it was really cool once you reached the top and felt so accomplished!

I definitely think that I would have killer arms if I kept up this rock climbing thing!

Owen dear, you look so small down there!
Then to reward ourselves for the kickbutt rock climbing adventure we had, we decided to do another Provo Pizza date night! We headed across the street from The Quarry to Nicolitalia's Pizza.

Provo Pizza: Nicolitalia Pizzeria
Located: 2295 North University Parkway
Provo, UT 84604
Rating: 3/5

We were pretty famished, so we decided to splurge (calorie-wise at least) with an opening appetizer of hot wings. Oh. My. Goodness. These were the BEST THING EVER. It is a really good thing that we ordered the 10-piece because there probably would have been some real tension and dispute if we had only bought 5.

look at the hot and spicy deliciousness......

I never knew that I loved ribs so much. Also, I know the tshirt is not in my 30 for 30, but I didn't want to get it all gross with the rock climbing. But the rest of my outfit still is, don't worry!
After the ribs, we were totally stoked for the pizza that we had ordered. We ordered The Stallion--mozzarella, pepperoni, steak, spinach and fresh garlic. Sounds delicious, right?

And it looked delicious too when we ordered it:

But sadly, we were sorely disappointed.

Maybe it was because we had relished the hot wings so much and this just did not live up to the flavor expectations.

Or maybe it was because there was no sauce on this pizza (weird)

Or maybe it was because every other bite, you got a HUGE mouthful of garlic, and I still sort of have remnants of terrible terrible garlic breath right now. Like a whole day later.

We probably ordered the wrong pizza or something, but next time we go to Nicolitalia, we are so only ordering ribs, and we'll probably get 20. At least.

thank you presidents

Things I love about Fridays:

  • Having lunch with my sister. Not only do I finally get to see her even though we live like three streets away from each other, I also score free lunch! Thank you Freshman Meal Plans! (and Devynne of course)
  • Only 1 class + a few hours of work = I get to come home early!
  • Usually I clean our house on Friday. Nothing like a clean home to get the weekend going.
  • No school or work tomorrow!
  • Date night :)
  • Painting my nails for date night. Very important.
  • I can wear weather-inappropriate items or uncomfortable shoes because I'm only on campus and seeing people for like 4 hours.
  • Ummm...did I mention that it's the weekend? Oh yeah, plus one extra day for us on Monday! (this week) Awesome!

out of the loop

necklace: ancient, striped sweater: target, brown sweater: kohls?, jeans: jcpenney's, watch: timex, boots: steve madden, silly band: from Google. that's right. and it was free.
I promise I was going to try a new and different pose today...I really do. But the sun was setting when we were getting home and I was freaking out and all my new pose business was forgotten. I apologize.

------------------------------------------------------------

I realized that by being a college student in Utah, there are just a lot of things that I am completely isolated from. In my evolution class, we learned that the human brain is unique amongst other species because we are able to know about events that we did not witness ourselves. I think I am sort of diminishing that skill.

Here is a list of things that I just don't know about that are supposedly a big deal these days:

1. Justin Bieber. Who is this kid and how is every pre-teen girl (and many older....) in love with him? Also what is the deal with him and the color purple? Weird.

2. Youtube videos. Do people seriously have time to watch these all the time? How on earth can those popular videos have so many millions of views? People should go vote instead or read a book or something.

3. The Angry Birds game. Who knew so many people were obsessed with it? Even Owen's dad plays it all the time. I so need a smartphone apparently.

4. The Bachelor. I've heard of the show, but for some reason it seems like this season everyone is watching it and is obsessed! Apparently there was a girl from SLC on it?

5. Jimmer Fredette. JUST KIDDING! Even I know who HE is, despite the fact that I apparently live under a rock. Though I guess you could technically say basement apartments are sort of underground...

6. Any new popular song. I seriously could not name a song that has come out in the past two months to you, much less sing along with the lyrics. I would be so humiliated if I went to a high school dance and everyone else knew the words besides me (amongst other reasons). It's embarrassing, and I blame it all on Pandora Radio/not having television.

want vs. must do

What I wanted to do tonight:

What I must do tonight:

No that is not stacks of thousands of lab reports that I have procrastinated grading the whole semester...

Okay maybe it is.

I guess this is why I could never really become a teacher. The little brain flash was nice while it lasted, but seriously. Grading is a whole lotta work and a whole lotta BORING.

Only three more stacks to go!!!!!!!!
